France Norman Gothic, Etc. 1998

Many of the Cathedrals in France are named Notre Dame. The name means "Our Lady." Whenever we hear that name we immediately think of the cathedral in Paris, but there are many with that name. Here is Notre Dame in Rouen.

Look at that spire.

Check out the rose window and the tympanum.

Even the points have points. Now, that's gothic.

As you can see from the presence of the folding chairs, this is a functional space as well.

This should give some idea of the height of the vaulting, and the size of the apse.

These shots are a little more personal, showing the human proportioned spaces existing within the huge interior.

Unmistakable groin vaulting.

Much of the original stained glass has been destroyed.

But, not all of it.
